COLOSSUS - WEST OAKTOWN 2006

"In his previous life as a bassist, living and working in London, Charlie Tate played with jazz/funk greats like Neneh Cherry, Gil Scott Heron, and James Brown. Now based in Oakland, California, Tate -- aka Colossus -- is putting out some of the nicest, most soulful hip-hop since Digable Planets and A Tribe Called Quest. "West Oaktown" ,coming from San Francisco's Om Records, is split over two discs: the first for you jazz cats, the second remixed with heavier, dirtier beats. [...] Colossus recalls the old days of Digable Planets and Jazzmatazz, Colossus busts out of West Oakland with a sound that both hip hop heads and jazz fans can groove to. Main dude Charlie Tate has played bass behind Roy Ayers, Gil Scott Heron and James Brown among others, and his pedigree shows in the way he meticuloulsy contstructed this disc. Forget the New Bay, this is the sound that we need".

Ιδανικό warm up, hard on, drop out ~
